Description
Most training and education on clinician self-care, countertransference, and client attunement emphasize pre- and post-session strategies. Few address how to manage these challenges in the moment. This workshop fills that gap by offering practical, real-time tools for clinicians who feel the emotional weight of the work as it unfolds. Drawing on mindfulness, somatic awareness, and trauma-informed care, participants will learn how to stay grounded, ethically present, and connected to both client and self. The session emphasizes dual awareness as a pathway to therapeutic effectiveness and clinician resilience.
Educational Goal
To help clinicians strengthen their therapeutic presence by using real-time grounding and mindfulness strategies to remain emotionally regulated during challenging sessions and, thereby, improving client attunement and clinician resilience.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
-
Identify at least two personal signs of in-session emotional activation that may arise when working with clients during emotionally intense moments.
-
Demonstrate one real-time grounding or mindfulness strategy that will work for you to maintain therapeutic presence during emotionally charged sessions.
-
Describe the concept of dual awareness and how it supports ethical attunement to both client and clinician experience in the moment.
