Educational Goal
To enhance participants' understanding of how to assess and treat multiple co-occurring compulsions, mental health disorders, and trauma using a systemic, collaborative model of care. Participants will learn to apply Dr. Patrick Carnes’ Addiction Interaction Disorder model and explore ways to partner with other professionals to improve outcomes for both clients and families.
Description
This training explores an integrated approach to treating clients with co-occurring behavioral compulsions, substance use disorders (SUD), trauma, and mental health concerns, with a specific focus on intimacy disorders and sex addiction. Rather than treating clients in isolation, this philosophy of care emphasizes cross-disciplinary collaboration, healing the system rather than the individual, and supporting clients and their families through coordinated care. Participants will gain tools to develop a comprehensive philosophy of care that enhances quality of life and long-term outcomes for individuals and their support systems.
