Words alone do not treat cPTSD, we need embodied and experiential methods like psychodrama and sociometrics to access the full social engagement system (Porges), whether in one-to-one, couples or group therapy. Sociometry, developed by J Moreno, who also created psychodrama, is the first scientific study of social networks and group dynamics. Sociometrics are the embodied, experiential form of sociometry; they bring the body into the therapeutic exploration of group dynamics through action. Floor Checks, created by Dr. Tian Dayton and based on these theoretical principles, get clients out of their chairs, engaging with themselves and each other and healing through co-regulation and connection; they are relational repair in action. Floor Checks bond and educate groups as they develop emotional literacy, regulation, and resilience. In this experiential workshop, we’ll explore the use of sociometrics and floor checks for creative and game-like relational repair as well as to access deeper connections with both inner states and relational or co-states.
