Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is for participants to review their understanding of the ethical, gatekeeping responsibilities of site supervisors, as well as learn practical strategies to address gatekeeping challenges.

Description

Site supervisors play a vital role within mental health professions and have an ethical obligation to serve as gatekeepers; however, mental health providers are often promoted to supervisor roles without formal training. This workshop will provide an overview of the ethical responsibilities of supervisors and the common gatekeeping challenges they face. This workshop will also focus on practical strategies to address these gatekeeping challenges, with an emphasis on working with trainees.

Presenters

Dr. Tessmer is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor-Supervisor, who maintains the NCC and BC-TMH credentials. She has been practicing for over 11 years now. She has had experience in both the inpatient and outpatient levels of care and has worked with adolescents, young adults, and adult populations. She currently is the Training Coordinator for Kent State University’s Counseling and Psychological Services. She is also adjunct faculty within two CACREP-accredited counseling programs. Staci has held numerous counseling leadership positions and is the current chair-elect for the ACA Midwest Region. Additionally, Staci has presented on a variety of counseling and supervision topics at local, state, and national conferences.
