From Hospital to Home: The Family’s Role in Recovery For High-Acuity Youth with Eating Disorders

|

Information

Date & Time

Description

The transition home from inpatient care is a critical time for youth with eating disorders. Many still present with high-acuity needs, and families and support systems may feel unprepared to manage recovery outside structured treatment settings. Through clinical insights and case examples, this session will share practical strategies for engaging families (and navigating situations where family support is limited) to strengthen recovery at home. Finally, we will discuss the pathway to sustained recovery by comparing virtual options to traditional brick-and-mortar settings.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify the challenges eating disorder patients and families face when transitioning from the hospital to the home environment.

  • Name three key considerations that families - of all configurations - need to support a high acuity patient’s transition home.

  • Compare at-home recovery options with traditional brick-and-mortar treatment settings for patients transitioning from hospital care.

Educational Goal

This session will prepare attendees to identify the challenges eating disorder patients and families face when transitioning from the hospital to the home environment, understand the considerations that families need to support a high acuity patient’s transition home, and compare at-home recovery options with traditional brick-and-mortar treatment settings for patients transitioning from hospital care.
