Description
Athletes face special pressures and circumstances in the sport world that impact relationship with food and body. Clinicians working with the athlete population need to have a working understanding of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S), the impact of low energy availability on health and performance, and ways to support athletes in meeting their nutritional needs in their sport environment. This presentation provides an overview of the prevalence of eating disorders among athletes, conceptualization of RED-S as a critical lens for treating athletes with eating disorders, and practical ways dietitians and clinicians can support athletes in whole-person nourishment.
