Focus and Inattention in Mental Health Treatment Outcomes

|

Information

Date & Time

Description

Problems with focus and attention are common in mental health treatment, and often lead clients or patients to ask about ADHD. The research and diagnostic criteria, however, are clear that issues with focus are common to many conditions: depression, anxiety, trauma, and more. This presentation uses data from several years of mental health treatment outcomes data at Sierra Tucson, a large residential mental health facility, and an ADHD screening measure provided to all clients, to document the relationships between inattention, hyperactivity, and mental health symptoms. It also documents the way that inattention influences treatment outcomes overall.

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify at least five mental health symptoms that commonly correlate with inattention.

  • Describe how inattention and hyperactivity change the trajectory of mental health outcomes in a higher acuity setting.
