This interactive workshop supports students, along with new and returning professionals, in navigating licensing, credentialing, and career transitions in counseling and psychoanalysis. Participants will gain a clear understanding of state regulations, including licensure requirements and considerations for telehealth and cross-state practice. The session also explores effective job search strategies and resources, while addressing common early-career challenges such as burnout, self-doubt, and professional identity development. Blending research with practical tools, attendees will leave with actionable strategies to support a confident transition into the field.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Understand and differentiate pathways to credentialing in counseling.

  • Demonstrate how to utilize social media tools (e.g., LinkedIn) to enhance the job search process.

  • Identify and evaluate recommended job search websites and professional resources.

  • Analyze common experiences and needs of new or transitioning professionals to inform their own career development.

Presenters

Annette Vaccaro, EdD, LPAT, LCSW, SCPsyA, LPC, ATR-BC, ACS, ATCS, Dr. Annette Vaccaro maintains a general practice with a specialty in clinical supervision, in Livingston, NJ. She is the Director of Academic Affairs at the Academy of Clinical and Applied Psychoanalysis (ACAP, http://www.acapnj.org) and Director of Academic Affairs at The Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis (BGSP, https://nj.bgsp.edu) within the New Jersey Branch campus. Dr. Vaccaro is also an Associate Professor at Caldwell University and Coordinator of their MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with Art Therapy Concentration and Post MA in Art Therapy program.
Daniel Summer, Ph.D, LAC
Dr. Dan Summer is Chair and Associate Professor in the Graduate Counseling Program at Caldwell University. Dr. Summer is a Licensed Associate Counselor and Licensed Art Therapist in New York and New Jersey. Dr. Summer teaches a variety of theoretical and experiential oriented classes, and encourages students to find their feet as they embark on training within the graduate program and beyond. Aside from teaching Dr. Summer is an Intensive In-Community Counselor working with youth and young adults. Dr. Summer enjoys traveling, being a part of study abroad trips at Caldwell, and engaging with the natural environment through the arts or hiking.
