Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
-
Be informed of what behaviors we specifically must NOT do
-
Be informed of what behaviors we specifically are directed to do
-
Be challenged to aspire to behaviors that we are called to reach in our daily lives, professionally and personally
-
Interact with our Codes of Ethics via case scenario discussions
Description
We will discuss what it takes to aspire to be an ethical MFT. Some of our boundaries and expectations are clear while others are increasingly blurry. We will experience the value of consultation and collective considerations. In true system theory fashion, we will see how our requirements, recommendations, and guidelines also behave systemically through homeostasis, morphostasis, and morphogenesis.
All participants are encouraged to have access to the current versions of their agreed-upon guidelines. For the MFTs: (1) the LPC Board Rules, and (2) the AAMFT Code of Ethics, and for our fellow Social Workers: (3) the Social Worker Professional Occupational Standards/Rules, and (4) the Code of Ethics of the NASW. Plus, for everyone, (5) the ACA Code of Ethics. Objectives: 1. be informed of what behaviors we specifically must NOT do; 2. be informed of what behaviors we specifically are directed to do; 3. be challenged to aspire to behaviors that we are called to reach in our daily lives, professionally and personally; and 4. interact with our Codes of Ethics via case scenario discussions.
