Participants will gain an increased understanding of the Internal Family Systems model.

Description

This course will provide an overview of the Internal Family Systems Model (IFS), a non-pathologizing, compassion-based and transformative psychotherapy. We will explore its origins, goals, and assumptions, including the natural multiplicity of the mind. The presenter will describe the qualities of Self, Parts, Protectors, Exiles, and Burdens.

 

There will be an experiential exercise and a guided meditation. IFS is an evidence-based practice registered with the NREPP, The National Registry for Evidence-based Programs and Practices. There is ongoing, encouraging research using IFS to treat posttraumatic stress disorder. Participants will be introduced to IFS theory, concepts, and techniques that support clients in increasing inner harmony, reducing symptoms, and improving functioning.

Presenters

Jamie Goodman

Jamie Goodman, LCSW, is a level 3 certified IFS therapist and Approved IFS Clinical Consultant in New York and Connecticut. Ms. Goodman has maintained a private practice since 2005. She has received extensive training in Internal Family Systems Therapy and has been a Program Assistant for Level 1 and Level 2 trainings in the United States and abroad. She has assisted Dr. Richard Schwartz, the developer of the Internal Family Systems model, at several workshops and retreats. In addition to her private practice, Ms. Goodman serves as a clinical consultant for other IFS-trained professionals individually and in groups.
