This workshop will provide an overview of established clinical models for integration of behavioral health services into medical settings, including the Collaborative Care model, and will address these within the context of the behavioral health ecosystem. Patients present with a wide range of behavioral health conditions in primary care and other medical settings and healthcare organizations need a plan for how to address this range of conditions. Primary care providers are critically important to these team-based integrated care approaches and a description and discussion of how to effectively engage them in integrated care will be included.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • List the core principles of evidence-based integrated care

  • Discuss the role of the primary care provider in integrated care

  • Plan for integrating behavioral health care into their medical services

Presenters

Dr. Anna Ratzliff is a national expert on Collaborative Care and, specifically, on training teams to implement and deliver mental health treatment in primary care settings. Her passion for translating complex research ideas into practical real-world applications began when she received her MD and PhD in Anatomy and Neurobiology as part of the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of California at Irvine. She currently is a Professor and Vice Chair for Faculty Development in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington where she has developed additional expertise in mental health workforce development, suicide prevention training, adult learning best practices, and mentorship. Dr. Ratzliff is the Co-Director of the AIMS Center (Advancing Integrated Mental Health Solutions) and Director of the UW Integrated Care Training Program for residents and fellows.
