Description
A person with a lived experience that becomes a Peer Support Specialist begins their career with a set of recovery tools, including being able to share their personal experiences with the individuals they serve. Effectively communicating their own story and personal strategies while focusing on the support of the program participant is an art to master. Sharing too much or taking a stance of authority is a common obstacle that hinders the Peer worker’s ability to build rapport. This session will guide attendees through a set of evidence-based interventions and communication strategies that a Peer Specialist needs to be aware of as they build their professional skill sets.
