Educational Goal
Participants will gain competency in diagnosing eating disorders and referring clients to the appropriate level of care.
Description
Designed to bolster clinicians’ skills in diagnosing, assessing, and recommending the appropriate level of care for clients with eating disorders, this workshop begins with a comprehensive review of diagnoses. Clinicians will try their hand at fleshing out nuances in diagnostics through several case vignettes. Clinicians will gain an understanding of what constitutes a thorough eating disorder assessment along with the ability to identify clients who are at medical risk. A review of the Level of care and insurance guidelines assists participants in determining the appropriate level of care for their clients. Participants will have the opportunity to make the level of care recommendations through three case vignettes. Participants will receive an eating disorder assessment supplement for use in their practices.

Presenters
Monika Ostroff, LICSW, CEDS-S is the Executive Director of the Multi-Service Eating Disorders Association, Inc. Monika is a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist and Supervisor, nationally recognized for her 25+ years of experience and contributions to the field of eating disorders. She has directed several successful residential, partial hospital, and intensive outpatient eating disorder programs in addition to having owned a thriving private practice. Monika is the co-author of Anorexia Nervosa: A Guide to Recovery and a contributing author to Self-Harm Behavior and Eating Disorders. She has presented at many national conferences, taught at the university level, and appeared on several radio and television broadcasts. Monika’s passion for treating eating disorders and mentoring other professionals was borne out of her own struggle and full recovery from a lengthy, severe eating disorder. She strongly believes in providing compassionate care that combines alternative healing with evidence-based modalities. In addition to using meditation, yoga, and essential oils, she is certified in several alternative modalities.
