The educational goal of this workshop is for participants to learn the distress tolerance skills and take away practical ways of implementing the skills with clients.

Description

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a skills-based approach that is widely utilized to treat a variety of mental health concerns. DBT encompasses skills in four main categories: core mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. For clinicians to be effective at infusing DBT skills into their clinical practice, it is important for clinicians to first learn the skills of DBT and how to teach them to clients.

Staci Tessmer, Ph.D., LPCC-S, NCC, BC-TMH, ACS
Dr. Tessmer is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor-Supervisor, who maintains the NCC, BC-TMH, and ACS credentials. She has been practicing for over 12 years now. She has had experience in both the inpatient and outpatient levels of care and has worked with adolescents, young adults, and adult populations. She currently is the Training Coordinator for Kent State University’s Counseling and Psychological Services. She is also adjunct faculty within two CACREP-accredited counseling programs. Staci has held numerous counseling leadership positions and is the current chair-elect for the ACA Midwest Region. Additionally, Staci has presented on a variety of counseling and supervision topics at local, state, and national conferences.
