Participants will be able to:

  • Identify at least two key developmental and neurobiological impacts of complex trauma on adolescents.

  • Explain how to apply polyvagal-informed interventions to help adolescents increase felt safety and regulate autonomic states in therapy.

  • Describe how to utilize relational and experiential strategies to foster secure attachment and repair relational trauma in adolescent clients.

  • Summarize how to implement trauma-responsive approaches that support identity development, individuation, and resilience in adolescents with complex trauma histories.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is for participants to increase understanding and skillset for working with adolescents who have experienced complex trauma

Description

This presentation will explore evidence-based approaches for working with adolescents who have experienced complex trauma. Participants will gain practical skills to enhance emotional regulation, attachment repair, and therapeutic engagement in this population. Drawing from attachment theory, polyvagal theory, and developmental trauma research, the session will provide clinicians with concrete interventions to support resilience and healing in adolescents with histories of chronic stress and relational trauma.

Presenters

Dave Albert, LCSW-C

Dave Albert has been working in adolescent outpatient and residential treatment since 2018. He is an LCSW-C in the state of Maryland, where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Salisbury University. He is currently a lead therapist at Family First Adolescent Services, practicing individual, group, and family therapy.
