Educational Goal
The educational goal of this workshop is to provide clinicians with proven communication strategies for clear, concise, and compelling in speech and writing that is sensitive to the unique journey of those struggling with addiction, depression, and suicide.
Description
This workshop provides a unique opportunity for clinicians to gain excellent communication skills and strategies. These communication skills will be filtered through the unique needs of those facing depression, addiction, and anxiety. A distinct blend of the speaker’s lived experience and professional expertise will make this offering beneficial to all who attend.

Presenters
A passionate coach and gifted communicator, JD Schramm treasures the opportunity to bring out the best in those he teaches or coaches through this work. Thousands of students at Stanford University, Columbia University, NYU, and USC, have benefitted from his hallmark style of teaching and rigorous feedback to help them speak with conviction and write for impact.
Schramm blends his lived experience in recovery from depression, suicide, and addiction with his professional expertise in communication training. He is an advocate for suicide prevention, foster care services, and HIV/AIDS research. He volunteers weekly as a counselor for the Crisis Text Line. Schramm’s 2011 TED Talk, Breaking the Silence for Suicide Attempt Survivors, has been viewed over 2 million times. He currently serves on the board Buckelew Programs, one of northern California’s leading providers of mental health services and care.
Schramm holds his Ed.D. in higher education leadership from the University of Pennsylvania, an MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business, and a BFA in theater from Emporia State University in Kansas.
An active member of the LGBTQ community, JD particularly focuses his energy on inclusion efforts within higher education and communities of faith. He and his husband, Rev. Ken Daigle, make their home in San Francisco raising three very active children.
