Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe why it is ethically necessary for a consulting psychologist to be knowledgeable of contextual factors to coach an organizational leader.

  • List at least 3 specific contextual factors that may influence an organizational leader.

  • Compare and contrast at least 2 ways a contextual factor may impact an individual leader differently depending on the leader’s personality.

  • Employ at least two techniques to discuss with a coaching client about how to consider a contextual factor.

Description

Context matters in organizational coaching; personality is not enough on its own. Aspects of the team, the organization, and the industry influence how a leader can succeed given their unique circumstances. Focusing on team and organizational levels in addition to individual factors is also ethically responsible. Participants will discuss a case study and plan interventions based on specific context factors. Participants will leave the session with a way to apply these techniques to their coaching.
