Description
Insomnia is a serious condition that can affect all aspects of a client’s life. This presentation will explore the treatment of insomnia as a co-occurring disorder using scientific evidence. The session will cover the basics of the CBT-I treatment protocol and the research supporting its effectiveness and recommended usage. Participants will get an overview of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and how it is applied to Insomnia, with special attention given to its use with chronic pain or low motivation/adherence clients. The presentation will use case examples and experiential exercises to master ACT techniques effectively.

Presenters
Savannah Hipes (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with an advocate heart and an inquisitive spirit. She received her Master of Social Work from Florida State University, then went on to complete the Rural and Underserved Interprofessional Postgraduate Fellowship with the Gulf Coast Veterans Healthcare System in Pensacola, Florida. During the fellowship, Savannah trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD, and the Unified Protocol for the Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders (UP) with veterans who’ve experienced military sexual trauma, severe and/or persistent mental illness, and who have been historically underserved such as women and LGBTQ+ individuals. She spent a few years with The Renfrew Center of Orlando, providing diagnostic evaluation and treatment for clients experiencing an eating disorder using The Renfrew Center Unified Treatment Model for Eating Disorders (UT), and has spent the last year in private practice. She is currently providing therapy for anxiety, trauma, insomnia, and eating disorders with CBT of Central and South Florida.
