Educational Goal
Description
Cannabis and psychdelics are at the forefront of public and scientific interest due to evolving legal landscapes, rising use, and emerging research. This presentation explores what the latest evidence reveals about their short- and long-term physical and mental effects, including cognitive and cardiovascular impacts from cannabis and psychological sequelae related to psychedelics. We'll discuss how legalization can coincide with increases in use and disorder, challenging the assumption that legality equals safety, and consider the implications for public health, diagnosis, and treatment. Finally, we'll review current treatment research, highlighting advances and ongoing challenges in addressing cannabis abuse and the therapeutic potential (and risks) of psychedelics.
