Educational Goal
The educational goal of this workshop is to increase knowledge about cannabis use and its relationship with mental health, such as anxiety, depression, and psychosis.
Description
The purpose of this live, evidence-based training is to provide current evidence on the effects of cannabis and to discuss how cannabis may impact mental health. The training will help providers better understand the status of the scientific literature around cannabis. Participants will learn about rates and prevalence of use in Veterans and reported rationale for use. The training will give specific attention to the relationship between cannabis use and serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia, given the high rates of cannabis use in psychosis.

Presenters
Dr. Schnakenberg Martin earned her PhD in Psychology from the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University. She completed her Predoctoral Internship and MIRECC Fellowship where she specialized in the treatment of serious mental illness and addiction, at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System (VACHS). She is currently a Research Psychologist at the VACHS and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Schnakenberg Martin has received research support through the National Institute of Health and the Veterans Health Administration to support her work on the relationship between cannabis and mental health, with a particular focus on the use of cannabis in individuals with psychosis.
