Description
Trauma is all too common in the clients we work with. Building Resilience for Individuals through Trauma Education (BRITE) is a program to address trauma in adults and is relatively simple to implement in a variety of settings. This workshop will provide foundational information on trauma, resilience, and empowerment as well as a basic overview of the BRITE program. Participants will learn to use the BRITE workbook and psychoeducational groups in their practice.

Presenters
Dr. Salerno has 30 years of experience working for the New York State Office of Mental health in clinical leadership positions in both inpatient and outpatient settings serving adults with serious mental illnesses. Dr. Salerno has held the position of director of a statewide evidence-based practices initiative that included the development of a curriculum-based wellness self-management program that received SAMHSA’s Science to Service Award (November 2010). Dr. Salerno has held assistant professor positions at the Langone Medical Center- NYU and the Columbia School of Medicine. In the past 8 years, Dr. Salerno has been working as a Research Scientist and Practice and Policy Scholar at the McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research at New York University as well as a senior consultant for the National Council for Behavioral Health. In both positions, Dr. Salerno has taught social work graduate students and trained numerous clinical staff across behavioral health disciplines in the principles and practices of trauma-informed care and integrated healthcare.
