Artificial intelligence is transforming how behavioral health clinicians manage documentation, scheduling, and administrative tasks — yet most clinicians have never been shown how to build and configure these tools themselves. In Part 1 of this hands-on workshop series, participants will learn the foundational principles of AI prompt engineering, explore three leading AI platforms (ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Gemini), and build their first ethical AI administrative assistant live during the session.

Grounded in the NASW Code of Ethics, HIPAA, and clinical best practices, participants will construct a custom GPT designed specifically for behavioral health documentation support — including progress notes, treatment plans, and psychosocial summaries — while embedding ethical guardrails that protect client confidentiality and prevent AI from making independent clinical decisions.

This is a skill-building session. Participants will leave with a working, tested bot they built themselves.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify at least three AI platforms used for administrative support in behavioral health settings and compare their key features, costs, and ethical considerations.

  • Explain the principles of prompt engineering and describe how system prompts shape AI behavior in clinical contexts.

  • Apply HIPAA standards and NASW ethical principles to the design of an AI administrative tool by building in de-identification protocols, confidentiality guardrails, and scope limitations.

  • Construct a basic custom AI administrative assistant using ChatGPT's GPT Builder, configured to support de-identified clinical documentation.

  • Demonstrate how to test AI-generated outputs for accuracy, bias, and clinical appropriateness before using them in practice.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is for participants to gain foundational knowledge of AI prompt engineering and apply that knowledge to build their first ethical, privacy-protective AI administrative tool — reducing documentation burden while maintaining clinical integrity and client safety. The educational goal of Part 2 is for participants to deepen their technical mastery of AI administrative tools and develop the ethical governance frameworks needed to use them responsibly — protecting clients, supervisees, and themselves from liability while maximizing the time-saving benefits of AI.

Shanequa E. Moore, LMSW, is an ethics-driven educator, trainer, and policy leader with over 15 years of experience in behavioral health, social work, and continuing education. She has conducted over 200 hours of CE-accredited training, including mandated reporter, child development, ACEs, trauma-informed care, cultural competency, and leadership. Shanequa teaches graduate ethics at Touro University, serves as a Course Assistant at Harvard Kennedy School, and created the Social Work Power Course, a multi-module professional development program that integrates ethics, emotional intelligence, and trauma-informed practice.
