Date & Time

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe 2 core components of embodiment and explain how trauma and eating disorders disrupt interoception and the experience of living in one's body.

  • Explain 3 ways that disruptions in interoception, neurobiology, and embodiment contribute to the development, maintenance, and treatment of eating disorders.

  • Apply at least 3 evidence-based, neurobiological, trauma-informed interventions targeting interoception that promote body trust, safety, and reconnection in eating disorder recovery.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to help clinicians recognize how trauma and eating disorders disrupt embodiment, deepen their understanding of the role of interoception in recovery, and apply practical strategies that promote safety, body trust, and reconnection.

Description

Eating Disorders are often conceptualized through the lens of body image, yet many clients continue to struggle despite improvements in body satisfaction and cognitive insight. This presentation introduces the concept of embodiment, explores how trauma and eating disorders disrupt interoception and the experience of living in one’s body, and examines the neurobiological role of the insula in these processes. Participants will leave with an expanded clinical framework and practical, evidence-informed strategies to foster safety, reconnection, and embodiment in eating disorder treatment.
