This practical, beginner-friendly workshop will equip mental health providers with the foundational knowledge needed to navigate the billing process with confidence. Participants will learn key billing and insurance terms, including the differences between copayments, coinsurance, deductibles, allowable rates, in-network vs. out-of-network coverage, and more. The course will also cover the basics of submitting claims—both electronically and by paper—including how to locate claims department mailing addresses, payer IDs, and how to work with clearinghouses (EDI exchange) when filing electronically. Whether you manage your own billing or rely on a third-party service, this session will help you better understand the process, reduce errors, and improve communication with clients and billers.
