Beyond Modality: Matching Trauma Treatment to Nervous System Capacity Across Levels of Care

|

Information

Date & Time

Description

This training explores how nervous system regulation can guide trauma treatment across Residential, PHP, and IOP levels of care. Moving beyond modality-specific approaches, participants will learn how to assess readiness for trauma work through stabilization, regulation capacity, and clinical presentation. Through discussion and case examples, presenters will examine practical distinctions between levels of care, readiness markers for trauma processing, and strategies for pacing treatment to support safer, more effective outcomes.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Explain how nervous system regulation and readiness can guide trauma treatment planning across Residential, PHP, and IOP levels of care.

  • Differentiate clinical indicators that suggest a client is appropriate for stabilization work versus deeper trauma processing.

  • Utilize at least 3 regulation-focused strategies to pace trauma treatment and reduce the risk of client destabilization across levels of care.

  • Analyze case examples to determine appropriate level-of-care placement and readiness for trauma-focused interventions.

  • Describe how clinicians can adapt trauma treatment approaches for neurodivergent clients using concrete, body-based, and regulation-oriented interventions.

Educational Goal

Participants will develop a more sophisticated framework for staging trauma treatment across Residential, PHP, and IOP settings by using nervous system regulation and readiness, rather than modality alone, to guide clinical decision-making. Attendees will strengthen their ability to assess stabilization, pace trauma work appropriately, and match interventions to a client’s nervous system capacity across levels of care.
