Participants will be able to:

  • Summarize core behavioral intervention principles for Sleep-Wake Disorders, including CBT-I and BBTI-informed approaches.

  • Distinguish how sleep-focused interventions may be implemented in individual therapy and group-based treatment formats. ​

  • Describe key components of Brief Behavioral Treatment for Insomnia, including sleep diary review, stimulus control, sleep scheduling, and relapse prevention strategies. ​

  • Apply behavioral sleep intervention concepts to clinical cases in order to support treatment planning across outpatient settings. ​

Educational Goal

The Equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills to implement evidence-based behavioral interventions for insomnia by applying Brief Behavioral Treatment for Insomnia (BBTI) and CBT-I principles to treatment planning, patient education, and behavioral change strategies across outpatient settings.

Description

This continuing education presentation reviews practical behavioral interventions for Sleep-Wake Disorders across outpatient clinical settings. Participants will briefly revisit core concepts from prior presentations, examine how sleep-focused treatment may be delivered in both individual and group formats, and review key components of CBT-I and Brief Behavioral Treatment for Insomnia. Emphasis is placed on sleep monitoring, stimulus control, sleep scheduling, relapse prevention, and application of behavioral intervention concepts to treatment planning and clinical cases.​

Elise Segui, PsyD, LPC-S
Elise Segui, PsyD, LPC-S, is a licensed psychologist with clinical expertise in psychological assessment, health psychology, sleep disorders, PTSD, serious mental illness, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and care for Veterans and first responders. She has experience providing evidence-based sleep interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, Brief Behavioral Treatment for Insomnia, nightmare- focused interventions, and CPAP adherence support. Dr. Segui has developed and presented clinical trainings on mindfulness, stress management, diagnostic assessment, and sleep-wake disorders for interdisciplinary clinical audiences. Her work emphasizes practical, patient-centered care, culturally responsive practice, and helping clinicians translate diagnostic knowledge into effective treatment planning.
