This course will cover basic conceptualizations of behavioral addictions, explicate arguments for and against the construct and provide case examples from compulsive sexual behavior disorder and problematic pornography use to illustrate heterogeneity in presentations. It will close with treatment implications.

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is to train clinicians on criteria, conceptualizations, and controversies of compulsive sexual behavior disorder as a diagnostic entity.

  • Recognize compulsive sexual behavior disorder

  • Define the four NIMH primary criticisms of the latent disease classification model

  • Differentiate CSBD-associated problematic pornography use and problematic pornography use related to moral incongruence

Presenters

Dr. Borgogna is a licensed clinical psychologist interested in the treatment of psychopathology. He studies various mental illness interventions, primarily through original lab clinical trials and systematic review/meta-analysis. While he examines many psychological problems, he has particular research and clinical expertise in addiction, trauma, and compulsivity, with an emphasis in sexual health and compulsivity.
