Description

The goal is to enhance knowledge of aging and mental health, as well as improve clinical competence among general psychiatrists, geriatricians, advanced practice providers, social workers, nurse practitioners, psychologists, and other professionals who care for the mental health needs of older adults.

Educational Goal

To enhance understanding of anxiety and trauma disorders in older adults and improve clinical competence in their assessment and treatment among general psychiatrists, geriatricians, advanced practice providers, social workers, nurse practitioners, psychologists, and other professionals involved in the mental health care of older patients.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe the public health impact of anxiety & trauma disorders in older patients.

  • Discuss appropriate assessment and differential diagnosis of anxiety & trauma disorders in older patients.

  • Implement the appropriate treatments for anxiety & trauma disorders in older patients and make age-appropriate modifications as needed.

  • Understand the evaluation and management of anxiety & trauma disorders in dementia.

Presenters

Brandon Yarns, MD, MS, is a board-certified geriatric psychiatrist and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Biobehavioral Sciences at UCLA. His areas of expertise are chronic pain, trauma, aging, and psychotherapy.
