Description
There is a long history of racism and discrimination within the United States. Over the past two years, amid a pandemic that has taken a disproportionate toll on Black and Brown people, mental health professionals continue to commit to addressing racism and reverse racist policies and practices in their institutions. However, learning about racism is not just taking a basic diversity course in the workplace. It is important for mental health professionals to uncover biases and be prepared to help families heal. This session will help provide an overview of racism to understand the concerns that families of color face in society. The presenters will provide research-based techniques to help mental health professionals become anti-racist and learn how to better serve families who continue to experience discrimination. The session is unique in that not only does it help mental health professionals uncover and face their own biases, but it also provides a guide for teaching anti-racism from infancy to adulthood.
