  • Identify key aspects of Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD) development as a DSM diagnosis.

  • Describe the differences between DMDD, Bipolar Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), and Intermittent Explosive Disorder in childhood.

  • Review evidence-based treatment recommendations for DMDD.

Educational Goal

The goal of this training is to improve provider knowledge of DMDD by clarifying its diagnostic development, differentiating it from overlapping conditions, and reviewing evidence-based psychotherapy and medication treatment options.

Description

In this presentation, we review the history of why the Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD) diagnosis was created. We will also review key differences from Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and Intermittent Explosive Disorder. Then, we will review the evidence for psychotherapy modalities and psychiatric medications for the treatment of DMDD.
