Identify DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria and key clinical features of breathing- related sleep disorders, circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders, parasomnias, restless legs syndrome, and substance/medication-induced sleep disorders.

Differentiate common sleep-wake disorder presentations using symptom timing, sleep-stage association, patient-reported symptoms, and functional impairment.

Apply DSM-5-TR diagnostic concepts to clinical case examples involving delayed sleep phase, insomnia, nightmare disorder, and NREM sleep arousal disorders.

Recognize when sleep-related symptoms may require additional assessment, referral, or consideration of medical, psychiatric, medication-related, or substance-related contributors.
Educational Goal
Description
This training provides an overview of DSM-5-TR sleep-wake disorders with a focus on breathing-related sleep disorders, circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders, parasomnias, restless legs syndrome, substance/medication-induced sleep disorder, and other specified or unspecified sleep-wake disorders. Participants will review diagnostic criteria, severity and course specifiers, associated clinical features, and key differential considerations. Case examples are used to help participants apply diagnostic concepts to common outpatient behavioral health presentations.
