Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify at least three current applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in behavioral health and describe their potential benefits and risks.

  • Analyze two case studies involving AI to determine ethical issues such as algorithmic bias, confidentiality, informed consent, and practitioner accountability.

  • Apply the clinician Code of Ethics and relevant technology standards to create a framework for evaluating the ethical use of AI in clinical decision-making.

  • Demonstrate how to communicate AI-related risks and benefits to clients in clear, ethical, and culturally sensitive language.

The educational goal of this workshop is for participants to gain knowledge and practical strategies to ethically evaluate and integrate AI tools in behavioral health practice, ensuring client safety, equity, and accountability.

Description

This interactive CE workshop introduces clinicians to the ethical dilemmas posed by artificial intelligence in behavioral health practice. Participants examine case studies on predictive analytics, therapeutic chatbots, and mental health apps, while analyzing issues of bias, informed consent, privacy, and professional judgment. Drawing from the NASW Code of Ethics and recent AI frameworks, clinicians will develop strategies to evaluate and ethically integrate AI tools into practice, ensuring client safety and equity in decision-making.

Presenters

Shanequa E. Moore, LMSW, is an ethics-driven educator, trainer, and policy leader with over 15 years of experience in behavioral health, social work, and continuing education. She has conducted over 200 hours of CE-accredited training, including mandated reporter, child development, ACEs, trauma-informed care, cultural competency, and leadership. Shanequa teaches graduate ethics at Touro University, serves as a Course Assistant at Harvard Kennedy School, and created the Social Work Power Course, a multi-module professional development program that integrates ethics, emotional intelligence, and trauma-informed practice. Recognized nationally for her leadership and innovation, she brings a strong commitment to preparing behavioral health professionals with the tools to thrive in today’s complex practice environments.
