Description

Being socially disconnected or perceiving the absence of companionship and support can have a large effect on health and mortality risk, including suicidality, for adolescents. This presentation will explore factors that lead to social isolation and loneliness, will determine how both physical and emotional health can be influenced and will discuss ways to improve social integration and support in order to improve outcomes and life satisfaction for adolescents.

Dr. Laura Leone

Dr. Laura Leone is a consultant for the National Council for Mental Wellbeing and a social worker who has worked in the behavioral health field for over 20 years in a variety of different settings including an OCD residential program, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, private practice, school-based health centers, and in a large federally qualified health center, serving in a variety of different clinical, administrative, and leadership roles. Dr. Leone provides training and consultation nationally on integrated care, mental health, substance use, suicide prevention, evidence-based practices, trauma-informed approaches, work with children and families, value-based payment readiness, and other behavioral health topic areas.
