Description
Participants will explore how Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) including food insecurity, housing instability, and systemic discrimination—impact the onset, diagnosis, and recovery of eating disorders. We will examine data-driven evidence on how marginalized identities face unique barriers to care and how clinicians can integrate an SDOH-informed lens into their practice.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
-
Identify at least 3 systemic barriers that delay diagnosis in marginalized communities
-
Implement an SDOH-informed assessment to intake procedures to better identify risk factors for ED.
-
Analyze the relationship between food insecurity and development of eating disorders as maladaptive coping strategies
-
Identify how current eating disorder research excludes marginalized groups.
