Educational Goal
The educational goal of this workshop is to help peers grasp the depth of active listening and learn what a powerful and effective skill it can be when understood and used correctly.
Description
Effective communication is a cornerstone of successful peer support. Active listening, in particular, plays a pivotal role in establishing trust, fostering meaningful connections, and promoting recovery outcomes. This 1.5-hour “Active Listening for Peer Support Specialists” workshop is designed to equip peer support specialists with the essential skills and knowledge required to enhance their active listening abilities within the context of peer support. Participants will learn the art of empathetic and attentive listening, enabling them to provide better assistance to individuals on their journey to recovery.

Presenters
Ginger Ross, BA, CRSW, NCPRSS, founder and author of Choices Recovery Trainings, has been involved with the Peer Recovery movement since 2015. A person in long-term recovery, she entered the field as an advocate to reduce the stigma and biases felt by those who struggled. Ginger started as a trainer for national training model. Ginger recognized the need for an advanced curriculum as the peer role grew. After completing her BA in Psychology (2017), she founded Choices Recovery Training and has grown it into the nationally recognized and reputable training service it is today. Choices Recovery Trainings provides current, practical, relatable content for real-world application.
