Educational Goal
The educational goal of this presentation is to understand better how experimental exercises can be incorporated in SUD care.
Description
Providing experiential exercises in the treatment of substance use disorder is both fun and effective. Therapeutic experiences offer opportunities for clients to process the internal experiences that drive them to self-medicate. Finding new and creative ways to help clients access their difficult cognitive and emotional processes offers novel opportunities that spur change. Presenters will offer the rationale for why experiential exercises should be incorporated in SUD care. The basic premise will be given for two specific models, Psychodrama and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. The audience will participate and learn 4 unique exercises (2 from each model). They will leave with the knowledge to facilitate these exercises in the treatment they provide.
