This panel brings together experts from sport psychology medicine and nutrition, explore REDs through a comprehensive and collaborative lens. Panelists will discuss the latest understanding of REDs in the collegiate setting and best practices for a multidisciplinary team within collegiate athletic departments. Emphasis will be placed on creating athlete-centered support systems, improving communication across care teams, and addressing systemic barriers through panelists’ experience working within a Division I university.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • List recommended providers for REDs team in a collegiate setting

  • Describe the importance of a multidisciplinary team for treating Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs) in a collegiate setting

  • Identify at least three warning signs and symptoms of REDs, and know when to refer to a higher level of care

Educational Goal

The educational goal of this workshop is for attendees to gain practical tools for communicating with at-risk athletes, strategies for multidisciplinary intervention, and insights into a collaborative care model.

Presenters

Mollie Gribbin, LCMHC, CMPC a licensed mental health counselor and sport psychology professional committed to supporting student-athletes at the University of Vermont. Her work sits at the intersection of mental health, sport performance, and overall well‑being. Her love for sport psychology began as a triple jumper and long jumper at the University of Nebraska where she studied psychology. After completing her undergraduate degree, she pursued a Master's of Education in School and Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri and then a few years later received a Master's of Education in Counseling with a Specialization in Sport Psychology from Boston University. Mollie has been working at the University of Vermont since 2023 with all varsity sport teams on mental health concerns and mental performance. Her clinical background includes specific training in eating disorder treatment for athletes and adult populations which allows her to navigate complex cases with nuance and care.
Colleen Cunningham (she/her) is a Nurse Practitioner in Student Health. She earned her master's degree in Nursing at Simmons College, and her bachelor's degree in Health Policy and Management at Providence College. She is also a certified Inclusive Eating Disorder Specialist. She practices from a weight-inclusive lens, focusing on a patient’s overall health and well-being. She enjoys working with students to explore their relationship with food and their body and feels strongly about providing informed, patient-centered, compassionate care. Colleen appreciates living in Vermont for the strong sense of community, support for family centered activities and for the deep connection to the outdoors and nature. Outside of her work at UVM she enjoys spending time with her family and her dog, spending time in the lake or in the mountains, reading, and joyful movement.
Amy Sercel, MS RD CD is a Registered Dietitian at the University of Vermont Student Health Services. She takes a client-centered, Health at Every Size approach to nutrition counseling. Amy strives to help students learn how to fuel their bodies and minds at college while creating a healthy meal pattern they can maintain for life. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Vermont. She is a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor and an Inclusive Eating Disorder Specialist.
