Young adults in America are facing a significant mental health crisis. This webinar examines how attachment theory can inform treatment processes. We'll explore how the empirically supported Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT) model can be adapted for young adult clients to address underlying relational trauma contributing to mental health symptoms.

Educational Goal
The educational goal of this workshop highlights the critical role of attachment theory in understanding and addressing mental health challenges among young adults, emphasizing the use of Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT) to repair attachment ruptures. Attendees will gain insights into the impact of relational trauma on mental health and learn practical strategies for adapting ABFT to effectively support this vulnerable population.

Presenters
Meredith Dellorco, LCSW, is the National Director of the ABFT Training Program at Newport Healthcare. She facilitates ABFT Introductory and Advanced Trainings, and clinical group supervision to clinicians Nationally. She has also presented on ABFT through numerous webinars and training events. She recently published an article in the Family Process Journal on “Bolstering family therapy: Assimilating EMDR into ABFT in youth residential treatment”. Meredith has presented at a number of conferences, including ACRC (2026), NAMI (2025), ARC (2024), the Adolescent Mental Health Symposium of Dallas (2024) and ATTACh (2023).
She graduated from Columbia University with a master's in social work, including an advanced clinical practice with children, youth and families. She has extensive trauma treatment experience with children, adolescents and families, including work as a primary therapist for at risk youth and families in the New York city foster care system and as an outpatient therapist providing a range treatment to children, adolescents and families in Sandy Hook, CT, following a community tragedy. She is additionally trained in CBT, DBT, EMDR, motivational interviewing and TF-CBT.
